I've been hoping that the ongoing fixes would have addressed this, but I think this is needing a thread. I'll explain why shortly. The background is that many users have been experiencing very poor frames per second in the PTU. Arena Commander and Star Marine are showing decent frames for me. I believe the problem is one of geography. With servers doing so much work server-side, the game is waiting on network calls to return before drawing a frame. Between full servers, and my distance from the only US Server (server located in Virginia, myself in the PNW), the frame draw times are well over 150ms. This results in single digit frames per second (Average 6-7). The result is a completely unplayable experience. Before the 'don't use potato' comments come, I believe this problem is invisible to CIG because some users are reporting perfectly playable FPS, if they're located relatively close to one of the data centers. Between their testers using local servers, and the some users not experiencing the issue, I don't thing the issue has been flagged as very high priority for CIG. This problem has been persistent since before Alpha 2.5, so I was really hoping to see some improvements with 3.0. CIG, if you're reading, please address this issue.
