For the last 3 patches there has been a subtle but visible layer of film grain across the whole screen, which I feel makes the game look bad. This effect is more noticeable on lower resolutions, which might be why many players (and devs?) haven't been noticing it as they are playing at 4k. The cause of this seems to be that the convar r_HDRGrainAmount has been set to 0.5 instead of 0. Attempting to change the value back to 0 creates the following message: <15:55:46> [CVARS]: [CHANGED] CXConsole::LoadConfigVar(): variable [r_HDRGrainAmount] is marked [Not Whitelisted] with a value of [0.5]; config file attempting to change to [0] - IGNORING I have attached screenshots below, although the effect seems less obvious in these. My worry is that CIG hasn't noticed this issue or they think it has been fixed, as one of the 3.6 patches had mentioned a fix for film grain. Granted, this is by no means a game-breaking bug, however it is a shame to let a single line of code harm the beautiful graphics of Star Citizen. The devs should either set this to 0 or whitelist r_HDRGrainAmount. If you can't see the grain, try turning the in-game resolution down. The issue is visible at 1080p but lower resolutions (say 800x600) will make it very obvious.
