This thread is purely about the combat fighter class of ships and how inconsistent they are in terms of balance. Interceptors, Lights, Mediums, Heavies. We all know CIG use these terms and categories to put ships into different boxes but we're at a point where they feel like they no longer apply. The internal consistency is no longer there. - The Guardian MX has over twice the HP and almost double the shields of the F8C but it's more maneuverable. - The Gladius has twice the shields the Arrow has but its just as maneuverable. - The MkII Superhornet has twice the shields and missiles than the F7a MkII yet its almost on par in movement. Before the F7a copped an 11%(!?) movement nerf it at least moved better than its tankier cousin, now they are almost the same. - The Superhornets get all guns firing by the pilot, but other 2 seater ships do not, it's time to either force the Superhornet to have a 2nd player or allow ships that currently need a 2nd, to have the same benifit as the Superhornet. - The Sabre is considerably more maneuverable than the f7a AND has almost twice the HP. These are just some of the examples going on here. The overall consistency just isn't there. For some reason, CIG is favouring the nose to nose combat model and that's fine if it's the way they want to go, but they aren't balancing ships to compensate for this and it results in a interceptor/light fighter dominant game. Sure, allow light fighters to orbit mediums and heavies with ease, but make them half as tough as they are now. Sure, have the F8C drive like a bus, but double its HP to at least where the Guardian series is. Sure, give the Superhornets double the shields and missiles of the f7a, but at least have the f7a move better. Don't even get me started on the poor Vanguard series. If you're light and nimble, you should be fragile and take few hits to kill. If you're slow and heavy, you should be tough and sturdy. But CIG seems to think the opposite in many cases. TLDR: The internal consistency across the different classes of fighters makes little sense anymore.
