I sure was excited for the new star map and HUD mini map, as getting around the verse wasn't easy for a relatively new player. Unfortunately, with 3.23 I often feel myself alt-F4'ing before even getting to my ship. The way of interacting with the environment and UI feels like a punch in the gut every time it doesn't respond, behaves strangely or doesn't do what I expect. While some of this already existed before 3.23, I think the main culprits are: Inconsistency between all kinds of different F interactions: --- Hold F and point mouse to tap a button in the world space (which may be slightly out of range and not respond despite the highlight, like Grim Hex elevator buttons or the occasional shopping screen where part of the screen remains out of range and can't be touched) --- Hold F and select options from a radial menu which is very trippy to my mouse making it very hard to select the proper option --- Press and Hold F to buy stuff on shopping shelves --- Single tap F for general item interactions like pickups or sitting in the cockpit chair Would be great if all of the above could be homogenized where possible, and an effort is made to make all world interactions work fast and smoothly 100% of the time Star Map: --- Camera in star map behaving unintuitively and clunky, so I have difficulty to navigate and inspect the planets/locations I want to see --- Cannot set course to a location on the star map most of the time, because it is obstructed or for other reasons I don't understand, instead of accommodating player intent and JUST MAKING IT WORK (TM) --- When accepting a mission and getting a new QT location, you can't immediately QT to that location if you're still in quantum travel mode as the drive simply won't spool when aligning to it, and you need to switch out and in nav mode to make the beacon work The UI not doing what is expected, not providing quick access to the commonly used functionality, or actively fighting the player --- Pressing X on the top right of the inventory screen doesn't close the inventory UI (what is it supposed to do?) --- Items simply snapping back to their previous location after moving or refusing to be moved, like bottles snapping back to hands when dropped, guns not taking ammo clips, helmets not being able to be taken off... --- Not being able to just enter a number when purchasing bulk items such as ammo, and having to continuously add small increments (maybe there is a way to do that, but it's not intiutive and I haven't found it) --- Having to drag equippable items on very small interaction zones of the player avatar instead of a simple item slot system like most MMOs use, or just accepting any drag drop on the avatar to put it in the correct slot (I guess this will gradually be replaced by the new inventory screen) --- The new loot screen being very confusing and unintuitive, I don't understand it and have difficulty figuring out what I am moving and in what subcontainer stuff is and why --- The general inventory screen only displaying a handful of items at the same time, that take time to load, and are not monospaced icons. Making it impossible to quickly find and organize your stuff. --- The shopping screens only displaying a handful of items at the same time The general delays when interacting with basically anything (always an issue, but exacerbated by slower new UI and poor game/server performance) --- New holographic UI flickering in (in exactly the same way every time) and delaying needlessly with slow animations --- Moving items around not resolving instantly and being fiddly. This really is my major frustration. I really expect an item to instantly move from my storage to my inventory or to the avatar or to the ground, like every other MMO and it just working 100%. I don't care if the client just shows it's there before the server completed and validated the transaction, I just want to get on with it and begin moving the next item. --- World space buttons, doors and elevators not responding immediately or not working at all --- Inventory item icons constantly reloading when scrolling the inventory back and forth instead of pre-loading and/or being cached, making inventory management extremely painful --- Delays when accepting missions or missions being broadcast but not appearing in the log until a long time after Then there's the new ship HUD UI with the overload of enemy markers, hit pip/feedback, and QT beacons that are difficult to distinguish, but enough has been said about that already. For me, it's just as simple as: * Every time I click or press a button and it doesn't work, I feel sad * Every time I try to perform an action and the game won't let me in the way I expect it to work, I feel sad * Every time the UI obstructs me, I feel sad * Every time there is a noticable delay until my action resolves, I feel sad * Every time the UI doesn't provide a clear and intuitive overview, I feel sad * If too much sad happens, I press alt-F4 * Currently, I often encounter sad overload within 10 minutes of playing Servers and MM are easy to point out as reasons not to play, but I feel constantly wrestling with suboptimal UX/UI is also a huge detriment to fun in the moment-to-moment gameplay.
