TL;DR version: CIG Please tell us what's going on with air and FPS combat. Something stinks. I love this game. I spend many, many hours playing, and focus heavily on air combat. I also do some FPS recently. Disclaimer: I am aware this is an alpha.... CIG please improve your communications so that when things go wrong we (backers) know why, and that ultimately you have direction for all aspects of the game. I will speak for some others when I say that we are getting tired of explaining to others that things will improve with each iteration, or that CIG knows what its doing. We want to help you by promoting the depths to which we can go in learning flight, combat, trading, trading etc etc but I for one am losing the will! We are told that the flight model will improve, but with no specific direction detailed. We are told ESP will be fixed, but the recent fix is quite simply ridiculous- pulling the nose of my ship around space from up to 60 degrees away like dog follows a bone. We know its a temporary fix, because you are aware that the accelerations of ships need to be addressed as do many other facets of the flight model; but what worries me is there there is no apparent pattern to 'improvements' - it feels totally random! And these 'improvements' are sold to us as progress, by so many devs, and streamers who support the game and refer to the roadmap constantly. Specifically: PLEASE START by making sure we have a stable set of masses/accelerations/rampup/down etc for ships, a working decoupled mode that doesn't break the pips, and a working AB2 (or better equivalent). NEXT, tune the ESP to the new values so that its impact is as minimal as possible. Then address the over zealous power management systems that prevent fighters from...fighting. Then take a look at balancing weapons, shields etc. It would also be nice if leaving quantum/entering armistice/recoupling DIDN'T LEAVE MY THROTTLE SET AT ANY RANDOM VALUE OTHER THAN ZERO???!!! WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY is this still here?! All I want is to be reassured that iteration is not random and that CIG has a direction (in my specific example, for air and fps combat in the PU, SM, and AC -ALL OF THESE-), and that when simple weird things go wrong as the LEAD PIP NO LONGER FUNCTIONING or HORNET'S FXED GUNS ALL FIRING IN RANDOM DIRECTIONS, they will be addressed urgently so we can continue to test the game and offer constructive feedback. I am certain that the current 'mood' within the game -which to be fair is not true of all backers- is one of uncertainty, frustration, growing distrust and lack of faith. Whether this is accurate or not, it is your job to communicate with your community and address these more and more commonly evident concerns. Just look at recent threads regarding the semi-automatic nature of cannons. This is representative of the general mood- backers are very confused about a lot of areas. Questions directed at devs on CAD and RTV are often mind-bogglingly off-topic considering the games more significant issues, and those who pose them are often speaking more on the topics than those being asked! This is sometimes painful to watch, particularly when sometimes it's easy to detect a little defensiveness even in the question poser. No one who posts their opinions in Spectrum, Discord etc wants this project to fail. We (Perhaps I speak for just myself, but I doubt it) are looking for some reassurance that things are all in hand. A special RTV on how the main issues in air combat will be addressed over the coming months would go a long way in achieving this, IMO.
