Note: Before anyone else comes to the glorious conclusion that I might simply not be a good pilot I would like to point out that I can say (based on measurable values) that I am very good at ship control, especially in decoupled mode. ---------------------------------- Was on Hurston just now to do a mission with a base sourrounded by auto-turrets. In my Terrapin of course and ofc in decoupled flight mode. Setup: Dual stick + pedals I looked for a good landing spot but got a bit too close and a turret started firing. (Invisible shots I must add here but they hit me nontheless) So I tried to quickly fly a bit away but alas, without me noticing my landing patch search had made me go slow and suddenly I was stuck in hover mode so my input controls totally did not do what I expected and second later I was on my back between trees. Ok, no problem I thought because there was still enough space between me and the trees in all directions. So I tried to thrust away from the surface by strafing relative "DOWN" whoch would be "UP" since I was lying on my back. Guess what.... Hover mode did not let me do that. So I tried rolling myself upright, but the trees did not give enough space to do a full roll to get upright again. I could have tried to use my forward thrust to get out, but no, my main thrusters have no option to rotate into flight formation as they are forced into hover mode while I am helpless on my back like a .... Turtle. I really felt the turtle vibes of utter helplessness on my back. In the end my 10 minute attempt to get out of that comparably wide clearing of trees ended up with two trees clipping through my ship, pinning it to the ground like a nasty needle would a dead butterfly on a wall. It is REALLY infuriating to know that my ship has theoretically the thrust to lift me up even when tits up, but that the IFCS does not allow me a manual override and instead forces me to abandon ship and to then be stuck on the surface all alone. Even the great sunrise I wantched from the corpse of my ship did not make it much better. :stuck_out_tongue:
