Most everyone who wants to do ship combat starts with some form of a light fighter. Most people who buy combat ships buy a light fighter, they look cool, they're the most accessible due to price (both in game and out), and being a hotshot pilots sounds fun in theory. But if they're forced into this "beginner" or "starter" role, they lose the ability to fulfill their real point: being high risk, high reward, advanced fighters. That is a problem. If light fighters need to be approachable, beginner friendly, and effective enough to feel good, guess what? Their role is ruined. They're just good all round combat ships, not too fragile, enough guns to be generally effective, and they get balanced to be more forgiving due to their position as "beginner" combat options. Light fighters should be punishing, difficult to fly optimally, but highly rewarding if flown by skilled pilots. Sure people will complain if that were the case, but here's the thing: Medium fighters exist! They're more forgiving, more user friendly, more flexible, and easier to manage for newer pilots. Light fighters have been forced into the "beginner" fighter role, but they need to be the "advanced" skill fighters.
