Devs, Essentially what it appears has happened, is that instead of only simply building more game loops and content, around a working, fun, fluid flight model, you have decided to also invest what I would imagine is an incredible amount of time and effort, into replacing something that really did not need replacing. There are many in the community that like to complain about things that they consider to be broken, or stale, or negatively impactful to their space faring logistics simulator, such as the current flight model, however this is a working system. It's dynamic, fast, fluid, and empowering to the committed hardcore Star Citizen backer. Sure it could have benefited from some minor adjustments, especially for larger vessels, and for atmospheric flight, however it most certainly did not need such a significant, and arguably damaging overhaul. I really was holding out hope for the changes to flying with 3.5 being positive for the game, however my optimism was eclipsed by concern as the hours went by actually testing it. By making this change to the flight mechanics of Star Citizen, you have alienated a huge number of hardcore PvP players, like myself, who have invested thousands of dollars, and often thousands of hours, honing our skills in your game. Without players like us, there will be a significant breakdown of the overall feeling of accomplishment in Star Citizen, not only for the PvP players when they roll through a convoy of ships destroying them, but also for the less PvP focused players who were able to outplay the more predatory players. Of course these things can still occur using the new flight model, but they will NOT be an enjoyable experience for any of the players involved in the encounter. There is no doubt in my mind that a vast number of players will leave the game if this is the direction it is heading. Unless we make our voices heard in an attempt to steer it back, I honestly believe the game could fail entirely. I can't imagine very many players were actually giving up on Star Citizen because of the current flight model. The only thing players truly desire right now to keep them playing Star Citizen day in day out, is more content and game play loops to sink their teeth into, which we all know is coming, and we all look forward to. Unfortunately, for me personally, and for what I'm assuming would be quite a large number of other more hardcore players, is that the new content is truly meaningless if we don't enjoy flying our ships and engaging in combat with them. If SQ 42 has this new flight model, I'm not even going to bother playing it, and Squadron is a game I've been looking forward to since I found out about Star Citizen and backed the game in 2014/15. Capitol Ship combat, huge space battles, even 1 on 1 dogfights in orbit over Yela, none of those things will matter to me at all if we stick with this flight model and don't make significant changes to it. My first suggestion would simply be to keep the current flying mechanics for now, add the new improvements that have come with 3.5 (obviously leaving out the new flight model), and possibly either continue to develop the new flight model behind the scenes with more of a focus on incorporating what is great about the current model in the new one, or just scrapping it and making enhancements to the current fm. Specifically what I'm talking about, when I say what is great about the current FM, is the turning and strafing dynamics of the ships. Applying pitch and yaw either in motion or stationary in 3.5 feels highly restrictive and artificial. Ships can roll incredibly fast, yet their pitch and yaw is incredibly slow and restrictive. The current flight model has a deeper feeling of acceleration and deceleration when applying pitch and yaw. You can 'flick' the nose of the ship in the direction you want it to go. It really feels, good. I don't know how else to describe it. Fluid, idk. Strafing as well being massively nerfed only compounds the problem. I would be shocked if there were many players in the community who complained that they didn't enjoy flying their ships because they could strafe too fast. I'm sure we all enjoyed it. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the new flight model. There might be an argument to be made that the current strafing should receive some kind of nerf, and I'm not sure how I'd feel about that, but certainly a slight nerf would be far better than the crazy one we got with the new fm. Devs, I'm imploring you. Please consider what I've written. I don't think I'm merely speaking for myself here.
