I recently had the displeasure of exploring the so-called "Master Mode" in Arena Commander, and I must express my deep disappointment with this gameplay limitation. As a player who enjoys the freedom of movement in 6 degrees of freedom (6DoF) space games, I found Master Mode to be nothing short of a horrendous gameplay limitation that significantly detracts from the overall enjoyment of the gaming experience. The restrictions imposed by Master Mode significantly hinder the immersive experience that is essential for enjoying a space exploration game. Maneuvering my spacecraft became an exercise in frustration, as the limitations placed on movement felt arbitrary and counterintuitive. Instead of feeling like a skilled pilot navigating the vastness of space, I found myself struggling against unnecessary constraints that detracted from the overall enjoyment of the game. The lack of flexibility in Master Mode is particularly perplexing, as it contradicts the very essence of a 6DoF space game. The joy of exploring the cosmos is rooted in the freedom to move seamlessly in any direction, yet Master Mode undermines this fundamental aspect. It feels like a step backward in game design, and I cannot fathom why such a restrictive feature was implemented. Furthermore, the absence of any meaningful benefits or rewards for enduring the frustrations of Master Mode adds insult to injury. If the intention was to create a challenging experience, it missed the mark entirely by an whole star system. Instead, it comes across as an arbitrary imposition that adds unnecessary difficulty without enhancing the gameplay in any meaningful way. In conclusion, Master Mode, is a regrettable addition that does a disservice to the otherwise promising Star Citizen. I urge the developers to reconsider or at least provide an option for players who prefer a more fluid and enjoyable experience. As it stands, Master Mode only succeeds in driving players away from what could have been an exceptional space exploration game.
