Firstly, no shade at the poor devs who had to code this mess. You're asked to create the impossible and often without acknowledgment or thanks. This is my first ever Spectrum post and I don't want it to be too excoriating. I have quietly watched the development of Star Citizen for many years but I feel compelled to break silence and weigh in on the issue of "Master Modes". My immediate reaction to the new game mechanic was skeptical, as it seemed tuned specifically to make all the combat a desperate and chaotic fur ball like the Battle of Britain, or something we've seen ten thousand times in Star Wars, rather than the more realistic and thought out engagement where pilots would spend several minutes climbing above their target, carefully lining up for an attack run that maximizes their fire on target while putting themselves on a vector that exposes them to as little counter fire as possible, then disengaging at speed to climb away and reset for another pass. This is all academic.. we're talking about our imaginary (beloved) spaceships here, so I'll cut right to the chase: After testing to see and feel for myself, I can confidently say this: Master Modes makes your space ship feel like it's flying through glue, whether it's in atmosphere or the vacuum of space. In SCM mode, you will struggle to reach WWII fighter speeds, even in the vacuum of space. You will also not experience a change in speed as you climb up in altitude and enter space; nor will you feel the exhilaration of nearly uncontrolled acceleration when you dive back in to a planet. Master modes doesn't need "tweaking" or "adjustment". Simply put, it needs put in the trash bin. You cannot spend a decade hyping the finest sci-fi simulation ever created only to game-ify it for casuals and crybabies in some horrific bait and switch at the last minute. Will this game-ification extend to all other simulation aspects of Star Citizen, or just the one that requires the most patience and skill? The biggest nerds like me will just struggle to suspend disbelief that a ship could run at full speed with its quantum drive spooled.. but not run at full or even half speed while it had shields and weapons powered. If one of the points of MM is to curtail griefing and ganking, you've added to the puzzle, not simplified it. Why should a ship that is actively trying to avoid or disengage from combat be left completely naked? On the other hand, why would a ship that must turn and defend and fight for survival be unable to make evasive counter maneuvers at speed? In my opinion, Master Modes is a faulty solution to a problem that didn't exist. In its current implementation, master modes isn't even close to what was advertised, it's just the old flight model MINUS the realism. With so many other big space games - that shall go unnamed for now - dropping the ball so badly right now, it's a ham fisted gut punch to impose master modes on us pilots.
