Per SCL "We asked, does this feature deliver the gameplay that we want, the community wants, and what Chris wants? So when we looked at the broad spectrum with the old system, the community was just jousting. We felt that we could do better than that and deliver a system that can still reward the best pilots. Master modes came from the goal to improve the overall flight experience by making it accessible to new players and still have enough depth for existing players." So you did this by - Further incentivizing jousting by preventing us from having strafe maneuvering strength - Codifying an AI that specifically has the jousting behavior - Removing the skill and depth for the existing players by crushing the flight speed ceiling - Making the game more tedious with mode switches - Turning the game into a nose-to-nose DPS race by strangling evasive flying Instead of simply teaching people the old flight model which saw the orbiting gameplay you seem to want? People joust because it is a way to conserve shields vs ammunition. Engage, strike, disengage. If you have skill, you will instead orbit one another, in order to keep increased nose-time on target. Furthermore, the community was not "just jousting". Bad pilots were jousting, skilled pilots were able to match velocity and keep in a locked, tight orbit. Secondarily to this, the community complains of "trichording" - which as has been stated multiple times is simply vector math - and "pip wigglign" - which again has been explained multiple times as simply flying evasively - have seemingly been taken on as complaints and things that needed fixing. You cannot predict Jerk - your change in Acceleration - unless you can predict the future. People got complacent against AI that don't actively try and utilize the full depth of the system in any capacity and don't truly fly as though they are in space. They assume "this shows green, we will hit the target" - and when someone opts to fly in a way that doesn't confine itself to a single velocity vector with extremely limited attempts to shift that velocity, they call it an exploit, instead of simply not understanding the inability to create any kind of accurate lead pip indicator. And with the addition of precision mode, you've further disincentivized actually bothering to fly with precision mode letting you plink at targets and become a turret. If this is truly the 'best direction' that can be conceived for this game, then frankly, this game has failed at being "the best space sim ever". This game has become unrecognizable from the one that tried to base itself in realistic spaceflight that I signed on for, the one I left Elite Dangerous for, because it respected my ability to understand flight.
