I have recently had to explain Master Modes to a new player and I realized I feel ashamed about it. Whenever I would explain things about SC in the past, I could always answer "why?" or "how?" questions with something like "because the devs try to make it realistic or at least based in reality and logic to a feasable degree", or at the very least "they are still working on making it make sense". And I was proud of it, because it's a very rare things in games outside of the simulation genre. That other day though I realized the only answer I could give to questions like that about Master Modes would be "bcuz gaem", and I hate it. I hate "bcuz gaem" design approaches and I hate that an abominatin like that is in SC, even though it might end up making the combat feel nicer. And in some ways it already has made combat nicer, for me anyway. But the bottom line is that it makes the game feel a lot more silly when I take a step back to look at the game as a whole; a lot more like just a game and a lot less like an immersive world. I lost a lot of respect for what CIG are making because of it, and it's yet another step away from being a project one has to respect and one step closer towards "just another stupid game" that is open to unbridled ridicule.
