In the olde flight model you had the freedom to use and abuse the way your ship moved anywhere in any form of gameplay. Which meant that your personal skill level of the ship under its complete skill ceiling applied to any part of the game where you used that ship. That gave you a sense of total control and freedom. MM makes you play a particular way in every part of the game and this reveals how the game is designed. When you are able to see that cracks in the design of the game and actually reminded every time that this is a game design for the game to function and not for me to just play. It reveals the framework of a game like breaking the 4th wall. Like people noticing repeating hubs or similar patterns of systems, of forced corrridors or forced anything you can see the gaming 4th wall. To me anytime any game does that it has lowered its tier in the gaming standard. If the highest tier was full play within the rules of the game, and the lowest tier was on rails watch a movie, and somewhere in between was participate in the illusion with some control. SC flying is now a little more closer to that participate with some control feeling. Does that mean that the game overall is bad. Not bad but personally dream shattering as the main reason the game survived a decade plus long hope train was because it was reaching for the highest tier. That might have just disappeared.
