Hey everyone, I've got a bit of a confession. I've been thinking about this for a while, and I wanted to get your take on something that's been bugging me about gaming. You know how it is—you're scrolling through the RSI store or the Star Citizen Wiki, and you see that perfect ship, that sweet-looking suit of armor, or some other cosmetic item that just screams you. It's a siren song, right? I tell myself that working towards those things in-game is the real goal. The chase, the grind, the whole journey is a huge part of what makes the game fun for me. It's the reason I log in and get stuff done. But then... life happens. A stressful day, a bad beat in a mission, whatever. And suddenly, that "treat yourself" voice in your head gets really loud. It whispers, "Why grind for hours when you can just have it now?" And if you're like me, sometimes you listen. You click the button, enter your info, and boom—instant gratification. And for a hot minute, it feels amazing. The new ship is in your hangar, that armor is on your character, and you feel like a million aUEC. But then, the high wears off. I look at my new toy, and it doesn't feel like a hard-earned reward. It feels... well, like I just bought it. The pride is gone, and the feeling of accomplishment is replaced with a nagging little voice that says, "You cheated." I've realized that for me, buying something with real money kills a huge part of the game's loop. That item I just had to have? It's no longer the prize at the end of a long journey. It's just... a thing I own. Showing it off feels hollow, and I worry it just brands me as a "whale." One of the biggest reasons I had to play is now gone, and I'm left waiting for the next thing to pop up and catch my eye. Maybe it's just me, but the moment I bypass the grind, I feel like I'm robbing myself of the best part of the game. What do you all think? Have you ever bought a ship or an item and immediately felt that a part of the fun was gone? Am I alone in this?
