Greetings CIG devteam, To lend some context, I am the proud owner of an original concept Origin 890 Jump. Since 4.0 launch and the introduction of the PDS I have been exclusively running this stunning ship when able and have done extensive testing with it in Arena Commander as it's one of my favorite features of the 890 now. I have some feedback regarding the application of the PDS autocannons. Per CIG's own words, capital class ships are supposed to be basically untouchable from small fighters unless heavily coordinated squadrons target core components. However I believe the PDS is severely under-utilized in some situations. Making even crewed capitals hard to defend against certain ship sizes. And even ground personnel. Currently the Autocannons are performing just fine at nuetralizing torpedoes, missles and deterring and even destroying fighters, however, when a ship of any size larger than a terrapin engages a capital ship the PDS become bystanders to the full energy and ballistic armament of the attacker. I believe strongly that the PDS should never idle in a fight that is "life or death" for the crew and ship. If a ship has an armament that can be brought to bare in a fight, it should be used. Even though the cannons are size 1. I understand that when the full suite of engineering changes is implemented these cannons will not really affect heavy armor, however, they would aid in keeping shields depleted and stop medium size ships from lingering close to a given capital ship to abuse it's size by sitting in it's blind spot with heavy size 5 fire or sitting behind the engines. Even combat oriented ships like the Idris and Polaris suffer from these shortcomings. This also incentivises would-be attackers to employ larger ships that are already advantaged against capital ships with ballistic armaments to get in close to destroy the PDS as they simply ignore them, or worse not use fighters altogether. I believe this is reductive gameplay and hurts the ecosystem of ship balance. Please CIG. Allow the PDS to "Defend the ship at all costs" like you stated in the PDS patch notes. Even humanoid targets that EVA and shoot their way into ships. Even if you reduce the health of the PDS cannons to balance the added power. They absolutely need to protect whatever ship they're attached to. Currently capitals are dying by ridiculous means. From being killed by single ramming fury snubs to being bullied by Size 4 and above ships. These vessels aren't conveying the power they are supposed to. Especially with the time investment to stocking the gun racks, manually loading cargo and vehicles, the cost of upgraded components and paid AI crew. They need to be more capable. I've lost my fully outfitted and stocked 890 on several occasions to brazen constellations and corsairs that simply treat my ship like a pinata because it won't fight back. Complaints over. Love your game. Love the ship I fly. Love the approach you take to building this incredible game. But my fun is abruptly ended by bold pilots that know my ship is vulnerable. Thank you for your time! P.S. to be clear. I'm not advocating for the 890 jump to excell in combat by any means. I understand what it is, however, it is a prime target for piracy and trolls. It should never lie on it's back because the ship attacking it is "bigger than average" it should fight to protect it's crew just like any ship with an automated defense system should. As with any capital ship. Especially the Kraken.
