I have given some thought on the latest adjustment towards power managment v2 as of 3.14g and want to lay out a couple of recommendations on how to improve it. Current situation We currently have power allocation devided between shields, thrusters and weapons, which have an active and a passive effect. For comparison: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/190048/thread/star-citizen-alpha-3-14-0g-ptu-7627001-patch-notes I will ommit ballistic weapons, they can bypass power management and generally increase shields and thrusters, but their disadvantage is that they are strongly limited by ammo (which probably is still being tuned). Weapons: Active - Increase energy capacitor "ammunition". Passive: Increase capacitor regeneration Shields: Active - Increase shield resistance. Passive: Increase shield regeneration Thruster: Active - Reduce capacitor draw. Passive: Increase capacitor regeneration Evaluation I generally like that an active effect was added very much, only having a passive effect could be exploited by double binding certain capacitor setting, since power allocation in a system in use wasn't providing any benefits. This actually enables a meaningful choice and priorization in combat. There is a downside with the active effect though, a cooldown was introduced whenever changing power allocation, e.g. When changing power to shields, any capacitor effect on shields go on a 2.5 second cooldown even interrupting shield regeneration. The same is on weapons, recharging will get interrupted by 2.5 seconds whenever changing power allocation for weapons. I feel like this is punishing choices we make in power allocation, especially on shields, since they already have a large cooldown window when taking damage. Proposal I suggest to remove the power allocation change penalty so it is more motivating and actually encouraged to use: At least for the regeneration effect. Ideally for the active effect too. Alternatively, reduce the allocation change timer to 1 second so it is not as punishing. Just to emphasize, I really like the direction power management is going, my feedback is intended as a small request that could largely improve the experience for active power management.
