The whole point of the refining process is to improve the quality, purify it,removing impurities and contaminants. Working the material into a higher quality version of itself meant for use. What should be happening is when you drop off your mined materials for refinement, and you select your refining process which increases the quality/purity, at the cost of the total yield you get back vs the cost of the process in terms of UEC. So, if you drop off 1SCU of 700 quality Iron, and run it through X process, youll get out 0.8 SCU of 900 Iron. as an example.
