S4 laser repeaters have had their range dropped from 4020m at a speed of 1625 m/s, to 1400m at a speed of 1400 m/s. As a result, the Hammerhead's ability to project force and protect an area from light fighters has been dramatically reduced. For comparison, I have attached an expertly rendered image below, visually showing the drop in range and resultant area of control from the Hammerhead. My understanding is that the design goal of the Hammerhead is to be an anti-light fighter corvette. These changes have made it much, much more difficult for the Hammerhead to protect its fleet/objective from fighters, since fighters can trivially stay outside of the Hammerhead's range - unless the Hammerhead stays right on top of an escort Perseus, for example, it won't be of any use against fighters attacking the Perseus. Additionally, light fighters can stay at the edge of weapons range and 'dance' in and out, shooting without fear of getting hit back. Since S3 shields have also been changed to have a 10 second delay before recharging, it's very easy for a single fighter to wear down and destroy a Hammerhead. This directly contradicts the Hammerhead's design goal. Possible solutions: Re-establish varying weapon range based on size. Right now, S1-S4 repeaters all have 1400m range flat. Give capacitors a secondary effect of boosting weapon range. Maybe in exchange for massive power draw, so only turrets on large military ships like the HH can boost their range significantly.
