While the old, out mustered Gladius gets kick after kick to be the superfighter of the universe, those who got the next generation space superiority fighters get punished again and again. The Sabre, which is supposed to take over from the Gladius is nerfed and nerfed. The Glaive, the alien Superfighter for their aces is not more than an intergalactic wheelchair, slow enough not to excite the retirees that fly them too much. For the Sabre: please don’t come again with the argument that the Sabre has one more gun and more shields than the Gladius. First: 3 guns are more than enough to do ANY job with the gun updates, second what use are a bunch of guns if you can’t aim them properly at your target. Stealth? The Sabre should have some stealth to sneak from distance, but in the dogfight it counts for nothing. It didn’t have a cloaking device or something to really have first strike abilities. Shields? Shield generators that sucks enough energy that you must decide to fly or to stop to recharge. Besides the flying Pancake is big as a barn door and an easy target and has next to no armor. It’s main defense is maneuverability! Putting the Sabre on the same level as the flying Tank, the Hornet and Superhornet is simply nonsense and wrong. The Glaive is even worse! Slow, ungainly, unmaneuverable and underpowered it is a shame for the name “fighter”. Take a look at the role. Spared for the Vanduul aces only. So I think no threat from Vanduuls anymore, as they send their aces in deathtraps into battle. On the other hands, why did the UEE musters out their most capable fighter the Gladius, and replaces it with ships that are far less capable? Corruption, deathwish, incompetence? The Gladius is an old-timer, not the superfighter! Again the question why should anybody buy an expensive ship, if the best ships are all on or below the 100$ mark? I don’t think that the US Airforce would buy an expensive F-22 if the role could be fulfilled far better with an F-5, which costs only a fraction! But as this isn’t the case why should a Sabre be far worse than the Gladius if it is one or two generations forward and one of the replacements for the Gladius? I can understand the outstanding performance of the Arrow, as it is the newest Fighter. But the rest is simply a miracle for me! In the meantime I see more and more friends retire frustrated into inactivity and resignation, which is a pity.
