I just started my latest playthrough of Freelancer on the weekend, (possibly 8th or 9th time through the vanilla campaign, with the HD 0.71 patch), and no matter how many times I play this game, I always fall in love with the atmosphere. Freelancer is one of my cosy games and without a doubt, the radio chatter does most of the heavy lifting when it comes to making the game world feel alive and populated. I also love watching NPC convoys of cargo and patrol ships pass by and flying into random dog fights when I am out exploring. Seeing things like battleships parked outside of stations and bounty hunters chasing criminals in nebulas just gives this game so much character. Star Citizen needs to flood its world with NPC's. Real players will never give the sense of a living, breathing universe in the same way that NPC ships will. We need to see convoys on our journeys and random groups dog fighting. Imagine stumbling across a patrolling Idris, taking on an NPC pirate base or a capital ship duel. Seeing loads of NPC ships around a station, coming and going, trading and taking supplies around the system would be fantastic. I really hope this is what they are building up to and I have everything crossed that we will have radio chatter in the universe soon. Make it an option to turn on and off for people that want a quiet environment but please let me hear the hustle and bustle!
