It almost hurts to make this post. I'm usually the first to welcome the advances made by CIG and to support the project. But for some time now it's been getting harder and harder. And I have the impression that we're reaching a new level of nonsense with the recent rework of the MFDs and similar things. We have to stop being guided by the ‘Rule of Cool’ and think about beautiful design before thinking about the practical side of things (especially when the pretty/beautiful side isn't even mastered). The old HUD wasn't the best in the world, but it was complete and functional. This "upgrade" is a DOWNGRADE. What happened to the power management triangle? It was a great feature both in terms of management and design. Gone The information shown on the screen are rubbish. The Target Status displays the target's faction... and doesn't even give me its actual distance or vector! I'm given useless information and the information I need is taken away from me. I could scan the target to find out in detail its affiliation, its faction, who's in command... But no. When you scan, the player's name is going over on the ship's name, so you can't read or understand anything. Better still, when you scan a player to see his cargo, you now have to click on an MFD again to say you want to see the ship's components or its cargo (whereas before all the information was displayed without a single click). It's ridiculous. Access to the thrusters to deactivate them has become very complex, not to say impossible (impossible to find on some ships). This was essential after a fight to cut a thruster, regain balance and avoid having an uncontrollable ship. And God knows that these days, a thruster imbalance can sometimes occur within the first few seconds of a fight. The speed limiter display is horrible and totally impractical. We've lost the strength/thrust indicator. The MFDs suck in the only area where they should be good: providing us with information, vital and easily exploitable information. The old HUDs were 100x better, they just needed a bit of "look" updating. You haven't just throwed away a graphical interface, you've scrapped a whole bunch of features that were very well thought out. I'm not even talking about the overall look of the new MFDs.... For me, it's a complete waste of time. How can you justify wasting years of resources on this, only to end up with something that's so poorly designed and ineffective? It's a mockery. The interface / UI designed 8/9 years ago was much better, more efficient in what it had to do... In 10 years, you've been treading water, gobbling up resources. Even government employees are more effective! Just as the old icons were much prettier, more pleasant and more successful than today's cheap space game icons, developed in a hurry. As someone said in another post : I suspect this is another instance of CIG’s Manchester studio devs, most of which were hired in the last 3 years, replacing and ruining what CIG Austin studio devs built 5-10 years ago. It’s the hubris of the younger generation to automatically assume everything the old generation did was bad and wrong, so they replace and “update” it without any appreciation or understanding of its purpose, and make everything objectively worse.
