So the Ares Ion cannon was now rebalanced "so it can't one-shot a light fighter". :face_with_rolling_eyes: Well maybe a light fighter has no business flying in front of a size 7 cannon! You need to move away from the "1v1 me bruv! Arena Commander mentality" if the game is going to have a meaningful balance. That some low skills arena commander "1v1 me bruvs" got salty that they couldn't face tank an Ares Ion is not a valid reason for nerfing the gun. Just don't fly in front of a size 7 cannon with a light fighter! Have some common sense! If you are stupid enough to try to face tank a size 7 cannon, the player that flies the Ares Ion should 100% be rewarded with a kill for landing an accurate shot. It's part of risk/reward. "Muh, but I got one-shot by an Ares Ion while I was 1v1'ing another light fighter"... Situational awareness (which the "1v1 me! AC bruvs" often completely lack) is an essential ingredients for having fun/interesting gameplay in the PU. I.e. stop you current dogfight and deal with the threat. If you feel the cannon is too easy to aim, add a slight tigger delay (like cannon needs 0.2 second to charge) instead. This works well with the spool-up time on the Inferno where you have to lead/predict where your target will be once shots starts leaving the barrel and adds a skill check. What will be the next? 1500 dps Idris railgun with 1000 rpm so it doesn't have enough alpha to one-shot a light fighter? Here is an idea for AC instead: Limit Battle Royale to light fighters so these people stop complaining and want everything nerfed. Stop letting these "1v1 me bruvs" ruin our game. Edit: So this is the official reason for the nerf: The changes were done after we saw in gameplay tests that Inferno outperformed the Ion significantly going against similar sized targets. It makes no difference to what I posted above. It's still the same 1v1-me-bruv mentality. Play tests comparing ship vs ship. 1v1 comparison. They are two different ships that should have their own individual character. Why try to make them perform the same? For cannons dps doesn't really matter - alpha damage is what matters - otherwise it's just another repeater. The playstyle is the difference and why it matters. For a high dps cannon, I don't need 100% time on target as I need with a low alpha repeater. I can flick, be evasive, take another shot, be evasive etc. It's simply another way of playing that is now being nerfed to the ground (again). Maybe your playtesters are trying to fly the Ares Ion like a Gladius with repeaters? If you feel the cannon is too hard to aim, increase the ammo speed, instead of messing with the alpha damage. Stop making everything the same repeater meta. Now you have a solution to both increasing the ease of using it, and making it harder (as mention originally) without touching the alpha damage.
