3.6 is a clear sign of CIG not listening to players, not recognizing a poor decision, and throwing out previous ideas that were heavily discuss by the dev team only to be replaced by garbage. 3.6 is the patch that makes me no longer wish to play, and the people that have tried the PTU in my org also don't want to play anymore because of the atrocious design decisions. The patch breaks down like this: POSITIVES Performance is improved. Weapon modding is simplistic but works well enough. Needs more options. Rest Stop exteriors look nice. P-72 is cool. NEGATIVES Hover mode is a mess. Whether you like it or don't, there are a ton of issues with it. This alone made me not want to deal with flying to ArcCorp or Hurston. There are plenty of other threads and posts going in detail about it so I won't waste time here. No indicator, no fast and easy way to learn to land in vertical landing bays, and no HUD interaction at all is pathetic. Law system is implemented poorly. I get it, there are deadlines to meet, but the law system is so badly implemented it would have been better to roll out something that can actually represent what the vision of it is. Auto fines, non stop interdictions, any crimestat amount resulting in the death penalty, and bugs causing crimes, such as elevators killing a party member coming aboard, make it seem like it was put together in a weekend instead of being worked on since 3.5. Hacking. Why implement a feature that is this barebones? Why not wait until there is something more to show instead of clicking continue for 10 minutes? What's the point of it anyways? You can reset crimestat by letting security kill you making it a far better option. Again, sloppy. Thruster power is pure control clutter. The mappings required for SC are already massive, and will only continue to grow. Adding thruster power is just another control that has to be mapped and adds another layer of learning for new players. Controls shouldn't be clunky and convoluted for the sake of being so, there needs to be more purpose behind it. With issues with VTOL requiring you to use thruster power control, it makes it far more irritating to fly. This should be purely optional and not be required for flight like it is now. QT was changed yet again. We now have to get out of atmosphere completely again to jump. This slows down gameplay tremendously for an already slow game. It amazes me that despite the sheer number of suggestions, ideas, and feedback, things feel like they are going backwards. CIG is fundamentally failing to listen to feedback and are driving forward with whatever it is they are doing. This patch is amazingly light on content with the 890 being bumped back a bit and the Defender getting pushed to the next patch. Gameplay opportunities are barely expanded upon. How is it that what is currently in the PTU is what has taken 3-4 months to complete? There is no way that is reasonable. Law system is all automatic with no gameplay opportunities. Auto fines instead of terminals. VTOL mode that barely functions appropriately. Hacking with nothing but pressing continue for 5-10 minutes. This was meant to be a big leap forward in functionality but it's a joke. Why are things so barebones? Why are patchwork features being implemented that will only require more time and money to undo and overhaul? The law system is a perfect example of a feature that is clearly not ready and cannot represent itself appropriately. Additions to the game should enrich it and give players more to do. The law system makes a lot of previously enjoyable gameplay experiences obsolete. I have an org member who grinded enough UEC to buy 2 M50s, but with the amount and frequency of fines would make such a feat impossible now. The "hacking" feature doesn't expand gameplay by allowing people to hack ships, interact with world objects to illicitly gain money or discounts, or anything. It is just a series of menus with you clicking continue. The additional controls and flight model changes increase an already high barrier to entry to the point of most people wouldn't give it a chance. Plenty of people I know want to try it but if I told them to with 3.6, they would just laugh at how terrible it is. The whole "It's in alpha, if you don't like it wait" argument is flat out pathetic at this point. We are getting less and less with each patch, and the roadmap keeps getting adjusted over and over again. 3.6 was hyped with all these systems being declared as quality by CIG developers in several videos and I want to know what THEY played with. If SQ42 is taking enough resources away from SC that this is all 3.6 is, just work on it for now, let us know, and scale back. We've waited almost 7 years already, several more can't hurt at this point. Basic features that could be added in a weekend don't cut it. Enough money and enough people work at CIG to make it unacceptable. What would make all of this better? Easy: Remove hover mode or make it an optional flight mode toggle for those that want it. If it stays, a landing assistant is required and it MUST be able to arrest forward thrust. If hover mode is there to stay, there is no way it can make it in without a landing practice option in Arena Commander for vertical landing bays. The HUD must also reflect ship orientation and surrounding obstacles while landing. Law system needs to be removed, or fines should accrue and require the player to use a console or even something in the mobiglas. Fines should not be automatic. Crimestat shouldn't be an automatic death sentence. Crimestat 1 should be removed after payment of fine. Crimestat 2 should be removed after payment of fine at an physical location. At a minimum, crimes should not be reported against party members. Hacking should work for ships. If they are single use items, they need to work faster. If they are a permanent utility item, then they can work slower. Thruster power can stay if people really want it. The control mapping for it is awful and should be investigated. Why Right Alt? It is extra control clutter. Interdictions need to happen far less. Scanning of ships and goods they could have aboard should be SOP at law abiding ports, not in interplanetary space. QT was fine in 3.5. We shouldn't need to get all the way out of atmosphere again. Over two accounts, I have spent more than would be reasonable in any other game, just like a lot of other people. I've been more than willing to be patient and let it cook because progress has been shown. We are now reaching the point where additions are insultingly weak and severely undercooked, even more so than anything else introduced in the past. The constant quick fix style implementations that will be redone later are a complete and utter waste. If it needs more time, give it more time. We have all been waiting this long anyways. These quick "solutions" are negatively impacting the experience for people. I personally no longer have an interest in playing 3.6 because of how bad it is. I hate flying because of hover mode. I can't play with friends because the auto fine system and bugs cause deaths and loss of UEC. Oh, and because I decided to look at the roadmap to see what ELSE they have botched, here's a list of things we have no idea how to access, interact with, or is delayed even further: Delayed 890 Jump Banu Defender DNA Face Customization v2 Ship Rentals Shield Tech Glass Visor and HUD Improvements With the supposed core tenant of CIG's development being open with the community, tell us why they are being delayed and what the blockers are? In the past, we have heard what is blocking what from being released, but at this point in development, we need more info than just some vague answer. I don't care about the "It's coming in 3.6.1" answer apologists like to give, we deserve more information. "Polishing" but not mentioned in patch notes Harvestable Entity Spawning Distribution and Ecosystem Improvements Transit System v2 Player Carriables v2 Player Jump v2 What do these things do? Where are they? How do we access them? How does this change gameplay? What was adjusted or modified? What constitutes the v2 designation? How is it better than what existed before? These are marked as polishing with no explanation in the patch notes. These are posted as notable improvements with no information aside from "polishing" and a super vague description on the roadmap. If effort isn't going to be taken to outline things like this, why have a roadmap at all? This isn't just someone hating on new stuff in a patch. I've enjoyed most of what has been added in the past, but 3.6 is a massive step backwards. It feels lazy, unfinished, and too many people are busy praising CIG for doing the absolute bare minimum. TL;DR CIG needs to stop implementing patchwork features that will only need to be revamped later anyways. Temporary implementations is a waste of time and resources. 3.6 is a mess. EDIT: Auto fines APPEAR to not be in the 3.6q patch. It remains to be seen if they make it in the live release. EDIT 2: Strafe seems to be fixed somewhat. QT distance is a new issue.
