When our race party was forming, I was very surprised to see that it was comprised of about 170 players. Everything seemed fine(ish) while lining up. But once they said "Go" and all those entities started moving at once, the server said "Peace, I'm out," and that was it. We all scrambled to restart. But that entire endeavor was fraught with interaction delays and desync on levels I have not seen since 3.18.0 (not hyperbole). This lasted for a little while, completely unplayable, until the server died a second time. Our race was over. At the time of this writing, the results of the Daymar Rally are not released. I understand that some racers were able to finish, and I say good for them; genuinely. I don't know for sure if our experience was isolated, but the chatter on the ATMO esports discord suggests it was fairly typical. We'll see what the numbers say. If the numbers support a typically successful event, then I will retract this entire line of questioning. But until then... There is nothing in the history of this game (from a player perspective) to suggest that a single DGS could maintain the level of playability necessary for this event with a player count of more than 100. And yet our party alone was 170+. That does not count the staff at the event that weren't in the party and any other random players that just happened to be anywhere on Daymar for unrelated reasons. As far as I can see, what was attempted was essentially a DDoS attack on a single DGS. From our perspective, the entire thing felt more like a stress test than a race. Now I love stress tests. I'm excited to be a part of any and all that I can be. But I want to know what I'm getting into. I don't want to put a team together and spend weeks collectively preparing, practicing, and fundraising for an event that is designed to push the limits and break the servers. Now of course, I was not involved in the planning of the event. I do not know what went on internally with CIG or ATMO. So I ask these questions genuinely. What exactly was the Daymar Rally? Was it an event that was incepted, planned, and executed with the expectation that it would be a success? Or was it a stress test; designed to find the points of failure without taking into account the heart and effort that players had poured into it? What, if anything, gave CIG/ATMO the confidence to pour nearly 200 players into one DGS and expect it to succeed? I don't think it's unreasonable to say that the players deserve an explanation. I'm not talking about standard lip-service. I'm talking about a rundown of the planning, the reasoning, where it went wrong, and what action CIG/ATMO intends to take to prevent this from recurring. And I don't mean "we're constantly working to improve the game". I do not doubt that. I mean specifically for the Daymar Rally and other large-scale events. I also understand that such answers may take a bit if time. I'll wait right here.
