More ship sales. And apparently, more broken ships. CIG just had a record-breaking May. Most people didn't refund, and many continue spending despite bugs, delays, and unfinished features. From CIG's perspective, the message seems clear: the current approach is still financially successful. The same applies to Squadron 42. I can't be the only person who expected at least a release date, a launch window, or meaningful marketing by now. Especially considering that most publishers are avoiding the upcoming GTA VI release window. At this point, it would be ironic if GTA VI got delayed again while Squadron 42 still wasn't ready. Based on what we've seen, the leaks, and my own confidence level, I genuinely don't believe Squadron 42 is close to release. And that's the part I struggle to understand. This project has been in development for almost 14 years. What exactly is happening behind the scenes? The Persistent Universe isn't inspiring much confidence either. 4.8 and 4.8.1 have made the game borderline unplayable for many players. Despite repeated maintenance and server work, major issues continue to appear. Communication hasn't helped either. When 4.8 effectively collapsed, there was little immediate communication. It took roughly two weeks to acknowledge that expensive pledge ships were not functioning properly, and some issues still remain unresolved nearly a month later. We also passed the $1 billion funding milestone. An incredible achievement. Yet despite that milestone, there is still no meaningful Squadron 42 update, no release date, and little clarity about the future. From a business perspective, however, everything seems to be working perfectly. Revenue keeps growing. Funding records keep being broken. Players continue to spend money despite bugs, delays, missing features, and unfinished ships. So why rush Squadron 42 out the door? Why commit to hard deadlines? Why aggressively push toward 1.0? From the outside, the incentives simply don't seem to exist. As long as funding keeps growing, the current approach appears to be working. And if it works, why would they change it? As another Spectrum post recently stated: "Goodwill is finite." I agree. Mine is running out. At this point, it feels like we can't reasonably expect: A consistently playable game experience Expensive pledge ships to function reliably Concept ships to arrive within a predictable timeframe Promised reworks to actually happen Major gameplay issues to be addressed quickly Squadron 42 to release anytime soon Star Citizen to realistically reach 1.0 in the foreseeable future or at all The only things that seem guaranteed are: Ship sales continue New patches continue Funding continues Everything else increasingly feels uncertain. I genuinely hope CIG proves me wrong. But after years of waiting, my confidence is at its lowest point.
