[Suggestion copied over from PTU Spectrum] Obviously the basic layout for Spectrum was inspired by group chat services such as Slack & Discord. A very important feature that many of these services tend to lack is the ability to sort users into usergroups with custom permissions. Usergroups are very important for keeping track of permissions and restricting access to certain forum areas / discussion threads / private chats. Obviously we'll have Organizations in Star Citizen, but we also need the ability to sort members within the orgs and to efficiently communicate between organizations. While I certainly hope the ability to have formal alliances between organizations is added, that's not the topic of this post. I'm just talking about being able to configure custom access permissions based on a custom group of users, regardless of their org or rank. Manually adding an arbitrary set of users to a private chat every time, for example, would be a huge pain and prone to error. An even more chaotic situation would be trying to add all the members of several organizations to several forums for diplomatic discussions. It would be far better to be just able to grant permissions to usergroups. You might be tempted just to use the "Rank" or "Role" feature for this, but that wouldn't be good enough. The value of usergroups is that you can be in many of them at once, each with custom permissions (custom access settings to each forum and privilege).
