Spectrum has come on a long way since its introduction and the migration from RSI. New features are coming along, there is a search system so the forums are now partly archive as well (very useful) and there is now an ignore function to help those who can't see eye to eye turn a blind eye to one another, all things which were on the old site which are integral to the smooth running of a forum setting. I have, however, recently noticed something which is still not present that is, again, another important feature for the smooth and consistent turnover of conversation on a forum... Although the bookmarks system alerts you to new posts in threads you have bookmarked by highlighting them, there are no other notifications if you are not quoted or directly replied to in a thread... Bookmarks, from what I can see, are the only way to monitor for indirect replies without going to the forum section and looking at the thread, but hold two major drawbacks: 1) Bookmarking is a manual process, commenting on a thread is not enough to have it Bookmarked to informed you if someone else comments on the thread. If you forget to bookmark, and people in the thread respond to your post but don't quote or reply directly to it, you don't get informed and don't get to continue talking with them. It's a bit anti-social, which is not really the intention of a social media platform. 2) After a while of bookmarking every thread you comment on, it fills up the bookmark bar with old threads which are no longer being discussed, so the old threads are deleted or removed. If someone then uses Search and makes a new comment on that thread, 90% or even more of the original responders will not know there was a new comment they may be able to chat with. It's close, but its still got holes in that let new comments slip through the cracks and conversation stall. Due to the above I have been using "Bookmarks" as exactly that: Bookmarks as you'd use them in a browser. I have a handfull of threads in the forum areas I want to be able to access quickly. Don't want to scroll all the way down to the Origin Ship Forum? No problem, two clicks and i'm there, my bookmark of the Origin 350R Owners Club and then the breadcrumb at the top of the page to the Origin Forum. Quick, easy, but not what Bookmarks are really intended for. A notification of new comments on a thread you have commented on is really all that is needed, with the option in settings to disable that feature if you don't want or need it.
