Open your Notifications. What do you see? Spam. You see spam. It's spam, because you cannot tell at a glance what is going on in there. Which ones are votes? Which ones are replies? Can you look at it and within 1 second tell me approximately how many of them are votes vs how many of them are replies? No. You cannot. Because the only way to tell the difference is by reading each and every one of them. We did an exercise in the air force about the important of using color for good UI's. They showed us a piece of paper, printed in black and white. The paper was COVERED in probably 30-40 different shapes. There were triangles, circles, squares, and pentagons. And they told us: count the squares. It took us about 15 seconds to count, and report our results. And even then, we weren't 100% sure we had even counted them accurately. Then they gave us the same page, but it was in color. They said, count the triangles. It took all of 1-2 seconds to do - all of the triangles were red. All the circles were green, the squares were blue, pentagons were yellow. There were 6 triangles. Easy peasy. The point is, when you look at a UI, you need to be able to understand QUICKLY what is going on, at a high level. That applies to fighter radars, and it also applies to web UI's. My suggestion is, show the thread replies in one color, and show the votes in a separate color. And chat replies/reactions in a third color. It should be easy enough to do, I think, and would greatly reduce the frustration of using the Notifications panel.
