If you post a picture/animation/video that has no connection and purpose for the thread topic just so that it gets a thumbnail pic, that's deceptive in the same way clickbait titles are. It's bad enough that many people just post anything in General regardless of whether it belongs there or not. (I see that ending where it always does.*) You're basically - in your thread meant to communicate something to people and/or inquire - openly portraying selfishness, and that's unpopular. (duh) *) In World of Warcraft, on high-pop realms people were misusing the Trade channel so much for random chatter that people started posting their trade listings in General (which is the peak of absurdity), and in pretty much all channels people were so much just caring about their own stuff that they kept reposting their listings every few seconds with the result that it became totally unusable for everybody; a typical example of how important it is that people integrate game theory (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_theory) into their actions. Because with every choice you make you move in one direction or the other, and in both cases there's no limit to what it can lead to if the many move in the same direction.
