I have been redirected from CS to make the suggestion here: I have recently noticed that there are several websites collecting, storing, processing and providing the user data base of the collective Star Citizen backer community. CIG doesn't consider the data they show on our profiles to be private data. I tend to disagree. I have no issues with other users being able to see the orgs I am currently in. But what orgs I may have been a part of in my past, or how often I used the RSI services (I'd like to know where they got that data from), are no ones concern and needs to be protected. That is the kind of data that those third party websites provide. I'll not provide links, as I do not want to advertise for them. Collecting, storing, processing, and providing our data, at least for european users, needs our consent per the GDPR. Even if it is easily available here. I haven't given any of those websites my consent and some of them don't even have a contact address to make the creator aware of his or her violation. As it is a rather tiresome process to find out who the owner of a specific website is, going through the registrar and webhoster to contact them, and in the end maybe even needing to start a lawsuit against them (something I hope to avoid for their and my sake), I'd like to suggest the option that we get an option to make our profiles private. Once the profile is private it can no longer be browsed by datacrawlers or any other third party except if the owner allows for it in the privacy settings. I'd suggest the following privacy settings: Complete privacy (No one except you and CIG can see your profile, not even org members) Org privacy (As above but org(s) members can see your profile) No privacy (everyone can see your profile) (Optional) Access by link. The link should be salted, so that it can't be reconstructed for other profiles. You can provide the link to those you trust once set. If disabled again the link loses its function and lead into a black hole. Yes, I am aware that some org leaders love to look up the org history of new members for fear of spies and other mischievous entities. Tell you what: That's their own problem. If you don't trust someone, don't let them into your org. Edit: Apparently one of the sites was already down when I created this post. It seems like the Org website behind it closed their doors and ended all services they had running.
