It's become a method for people to promote mob-mentality hate on legitimate posts and serves no purpose other than to make liking or hating something in masses easier. It just doesn't look good publicly for the community when a new player asks a question and gets thrown poop emojis ans downvote hands instead of comments saying why it's valid/not valid.
