Obviously, this is my opinion… If you like Spectrum and find it useful, please continue to enjoy the interface. Structuring Spectrum upon a Reddit style format is mistake for a project like Star Citizen, that has massive amounts of ever changing information. One of the core issues, is that they chose a format that is unsuitable for use as a forum at its foundation. Reddit, for what it is, is not a great forum for ease of use when it comes to drilling down on a specific topic over time. SC is massive with many ongoing changes. The unorganized method Redddit style forums does not assist the user base in easily finding and digesting information on a specific topic. There are well over one million forums worldwide (as of 2015) most using the classic topic/sub-topic format… Why because it works well for the user base, classic forum formats aid the user base in organizing topics, quickly finding a specific topic and subtopic they are searching for, this kind of flow is used by the CIG programmers in their work flow and in the custom software they created, because… its organized and it leads to the best result in the least amount of time. Then we come to the implementation issues, forced move into a half-baked format was a self-inflected wound that did not need to happen, it generated a negative impact from the start. The slow pace that Turbulent can make changes/revisions and push out the patches is compounding the issue. This while the user base that once had a fully functioning platform that worked and worked well is pushed here and there digging for information in a disorganized mess. Is this Turbulent’s fault? No sir, this one is on CIG. The base format and the way it was rolled out was a mistake. CIG YOU GOT SOME SPLANNIN TO DO… Is there functionality planned to assist other game aspects… Sure but not so much now and at what cost? A usable well organized forum, did we really need to scrap that while we go through this platforms growth phase? Would you use a Reddit style structure in your programming format? No… I think not, then why did you decide this was suitable for your user base? Did you really need to force your customer base into an incomplete, unorganized format? Was this format so bad that the clear majority of the backers would not use it by choice? If it was that bad, was it wise to force the user base to use a format so disliked? The best thing they could do for Spectrum is re-open the forums and allow Spectrum to mature while it is not in the hot seat...... Allowing Turbulent to work at the pace they can without immense pressure. That or we can spend a year of goodwill and immense resources, simply to push Spectrum closer and closer to what we left behind.... Give it time, Spectrum takes some getting used to: Spectrum does not take much getting used to, it is what it is, a half-baked Reddit style chat platform. You are being too hard on the developers, it’s not fair to them: I hear what you are saying and agree with the sentiment, but no one is being unfair about expressing their opinion or their critical views. They moved everyone over to help beta test Spectrum: For me, I signed up to test a game, to assist in and participate in game development and feedback. NOT beta test a social media experiment. Not being able to properly communicate with the backers does not aid in the testing of the game. You just hate change: No, I thrive on it, if it is useful and an improvement, the current format is neither. Why are all your Spectrum posts so negative: Because I care, because I want to participate at the level I used to, without the interface being a hindrance rather than assisting in the experience. You have nothing positive to say: Spectrum is a fine ‘chat’ platform. When implemented fully it will add needed features to the game. I am looking forward to using it for Mobi-glass applications.
