Okay, I'm not a gray-beard in any sense of the term in this here community - have been here only since Jan or Feb (can't recall which). But I do recall the pre-Spectrum days (pause here for heavy sigh), when we had the classic forums. So ... made the forced switch to Spectrum, and got over the following: - limited search tools - inability to dress links - limited post editing tools (try quoting just part of a post - no really, go ahead and try it) - lack of sub-forums (somewhat fixed now) - tags (not a fan) - emotes (disabled 'em, so don't see 'em) - up-voting - no in-forum signatures There's probably more, but those are the ones that come to mind. Improvised, adapted, overcame - all okay, jump-master, light is green. ... but then came nested (pause here for grinding teeth) threads - ugh. So we see the new post alert on the little bell thingy, upper-right. Cool. We click on it, and find ... ... wait, where's the new friggn' posts??? Can't see 'em. Okay, lemme dig through six zillion posts I've already read ... okay, been reading for five minutes now ... fuggit ... oh wait, some of the pages have the new or old button at the top, but not all ... so lemme try toggling that (if it's there). Crap, not working .... still gotta dig through tons of old posts. Okay, devs, nested threads ain't working, unless the intent is to piss off folks. But I got it: Some folks are masochists and like the nested format - I ain't one of those. So to the recommendation on stopping the madness: Make Chronological the default, and Nested the pull-down option. Tango mike.
