One very disheartening aspect of these forums is the frequent use of the "Picard palm". You know, that emoji which basically indicates "I can't believe how stupid that poster is". I think it is incredibly offensive and condescending. Rather than a simple "down thumb" to indicate they disagree with a post, with perhaps a follow up to explain why they disagree in a civil manner, they have to take the extra step with that icon and indicate they think that poster is basically an idiot. The same applies to that emoji that looks like a pile of poop. If we disagree with a position someone takes, is it too much to ask that we try to state why we disagree without doing so in an insulting manner? I feel that there is far too much of insults and angry, abusive comments on these boards. Yes, I know this is the internet, but I like to entertain the (perhaps naive) dream that someday, the culture of the internet could evolve into something in which the norm is for people to treat each other with something resembling respect.
