I was going through the forums today and I found a topic that was particularly interesting to me, so I clicked on it and found that the conversation had been closed citing it related to one of the megathreads. That's a little frustrating, but ok. So of course, I go on over to said megathread and I was instantly overwhelmed. After trying to get past all the 3.0 whining and people pulling quotes from posts I hadn't even scrolled by yet, I couldn't find anything of value related to what I wanted to find. It's like a needle in a haystack, but the haystack is now the size of a barn. Having a central thread for certain things can be helpful. But when you have a topic that is too generic it will instantly become a massive conflagiration of memes and trolls. If I had one request it would be to not just END posts that are related to megathreads but not in them. Add a comment in the title (reddit style) or something, don't just lock it down. Currently I can't contribute to something that I thought was constructive, and it's highly unlikely that the author will manually move their post into the megathread and start anew. Just my 2c.
