While implementing a supply and demand system makes a lot of sense, and will benefit the game in the future; for the current PU/PTU sandbox, the quantities caps being used throw off the balance of risk vs. reward, effectively removing profit potential, and as a result, removes the usefullness of cargo ships. Previously, the margins have already been set very low, and now with the new approach to local market caps - (consoles limited to 800, 1000, 5000 unit transactions over the period of hours instead of minutes), the profit per hour of such activities is so low, or impossible, that the only way to make money in game is bounties and missions. Prior to 3.5.1 and 3.6, the trading quantities, while low, were at least enough to eek out some profit. After one combines the low profit margins, the intended risk of other players or NPCs attacking you and your haul, and the unintended risk of client/server crashes causing cargo loss, you'd have a very very risky venture, that could still result in some profit, if one was careful and cunning enough. But these new supply and demand caps, with their increased timers, make attempting trading in this state either a waste of time, or simply a for-loss venture, once the other realities of PU gameplay are considered. This seems to be the case, even without considering how many players will be competing for access these low quantities. If players such as myself enjoy trading, and bought a freelancer max, or, say, a caterpillar, what use do these ships have now? I would think it is preferable this activity is included in alpha testing as development continues.. and in order to do so, it either has to be fun, or profitable, or both. It would be fair to think that this is an intended result, that there was a decision to coax players into other activities, but this doesn't make sense, when you consider you are accepting pledges for cargo ships, and have had functional trading in the game development's history. Trading adds another way for a player to experience star citizen's progress, and an alternative to bounties and box missions, which easily become repetitive - not to mention it also gives me a reason to keep my freelancer max. Thanks!
