Overview: Modular sled that can act as a tug, carry cargo or passengers depending on modules. It has no life support, shields, weapons, radar, coolers, jump drive, or armor. Electronics are typically powered via a Dynamo-14 battery capable of 6 hours operation with running lights on (ePIRB independently powered for 30 sol days). Manufacturer: None (build from scraps, a welding tool, bunch of pipe, and engineer know how. Wide variety of public domain plans on the spectrum). Type: Parasitic Snub Dimensions: 6mx2mx2m Mass: 220 Kg, 630 Kg when fully fueled Min Crew: 1 SCM: 60 m/s AFB: 0 Modules: cargo (8 SCU), passenger (4) Main Thruster: 1 Maneuvering Thrusters: 20 If you’ve been reading Medium Repair Ship, one of the suggestions in there was some sort of sled to act as a tug, perhaps even a little S&R for damaged ships. Given I knew nothing about 3D modeling I thought a sled might be a great way to learn a little. I was going to post photos but I saw @ElkarDyn's post Drifter: the multi-role/exploration/light-cargo ship for a crew of 2 (WIP) that he was running out of space, so instead posted a short video fly-about on youtube, and the quality isn't youtube's fault. I'm thinking a white background might help, but let me know your thoughts. Design Points It only has a primary thruster; which means if you get up to speed you'll want to flip over to stop. The platform behind the driver and the thruster is the modular area. It's actually always a cargo vehicle, but the "cargo" can be the "passenger module" which locks onto the cargo ports. Passengers have to bring their own life support. The 4 little tanks are for the maneuvering thrusters, the big tank/thruster for big burns. The "tug" operation is to just push with the nose against the ship (don't worry, the repair ship will smooth out the dents and scratches;). The seats should just be base metal with seat belts, but for now I imported some seats. The spaceman is from the NASA 3d Models site and is the Z2 suit. He's 1.9m tall for scale (about 6'4" with suit). I added the rollbar as an afterthought, it's to give astronauts something to grab on as they approach the sled and help them get seated. The guy in the video is an idiot, he should be sitting down rather than standing on the seat (when the thruster kicks in he's going to go flying). It needs work lights, landing skids, and it probably wouldn't hurt if the main thruster was actually attached to the sled. If you notice anything else let me know. Anyway, I'm only a couple of days into Blender. Next step is to look into some of the guides posted here to see if I can figure out how to use the SC assets. Then I'll start working with textures. From a preliminary glance it looks like we can't use assets beyond 2.5? All feedback/advice appreciated.
