Whilst deciding whether I’d be able to solo a Starfarer, I wondered what an entry level gas collector, refinery and refueling ship might look like. Similar in size to the Freelancer, the Drake Quartermaster is designed to dive deep into gas giants to scoop up gas. Hence it's more aerodynamic exterior, based on spaceplanes like the Boeing X-37. Since the Quartermaster cannot refine Quantum fuel itself, it features an additional rectractable boom. The rear boom is a standard refueling boom, but the forward boom is designed to pierce the tanks of stricken vessels and extract their contents, including Quantum fuel. Compared to the labyrinthine innards of the Starfarer, its interior is extremely space efficient, with the majority of its volume taken up by 4 large gas tanks. Pipes run the length of the ship, connecting these tanks to the front fuel scoop, both booms, and the refinery. Nestled in between the tanks is the crew area. The top level is the cockpit. Half a level below that is the living area, including a bed, toilet, and locker. The bed is tucked under the cockpit to save space. The bottom level, accessed via a ladder, is the refinery. This area also houses most of the ship's components, as well as the exterior door. Inline with the other career entry ships, armament is pretty light. Two fixed size 2s are integrated into the nose.
