This was a project from a long ass time ago, specifically i last looked at it in... maybe late 2013? It's been a while. Anyways, I am likely a little out of practice at the moment since I haven't modeled too much lately and didn't go terribly in depth. However, as a concept it still looks promising to this day, if not a little sleek at the very least. The models shown below- Profile and a more updated one- are separate, though i could consolidate them that would be way too much effort for the time being, so for reference the grey-roof model is the new one. (I'd have to uncompress files, and handpluck all the textures, then manually apply every single one again...) I'd like to see people's reaction to it first. The design was originally based around more modern APC's like the BTR-80, which is reflected in it's overall shape and boat-capable nature. This model however, runs on four tracks, each of which can be turned via hydraulics and electronic motors to apply a much better top speed and handling. This is also why it used rubber tracks instead of metal, because it's lighter and offers less rolling resistance. (same reason belts are used on systems such as record player where a smooth, constant rotation is needed. Also, now it's street-legal!) Made as an 8-10 man vehicle (driver, weapons coordinator, and then 6-8 people behind them.), this APC boasts an unmanned turret, and a small allotment of 8 missiles- the size used in your typical shoulder-mounted rocket launcher, so they're okay to deal with smaller targets but if you're looking at taking down a capitol ship- well, my best advice is skitter off like a sandbug because that is most likely not going to work. MRTV simply stands, very blatantly, for Multi Role Tracked Vehicle. The multi tracked design, though a little more unconventional and complex, was designed to give the vehicle better traverse, and more car-like manouvering while in motion, allowing a much more swift motion, as a traditional trackset halts power to one side of the vehicle and uses the other track to turn. In this case, you're pointing them merely where you want to go, none of the tracks have to slow down! The motility system consists of four hydraulic struts attached to each track-hub, and an unconventional steering system for controlling them. The steering system is made up of two joysticks that have two axes of movement. The first is more conventional, being able to twist like a steering wheel, each controller works for one side of the vehicle. The other axis is a back-forward motion, not unlike an upside down mounted joystick for an aircraft, but only capable of moving in one direction. To; Bend tracks up in the middle and descend over a steep ledge (as to not drag your undercarriage along the ground); the joystick mechanisms must be pushed forwards, the equivalent of diving in an aircraft. Point the track-tips skywards for climbing steeper ledges; The joysticks must be pulled back, just like pulling up to climb in a plane. (This is also used in aquatic mode to reduce water displacement resistance.) Turn in place; Bring the vehicle to a full stop and twist the tops of the controllers inwards. This brings the tips of each track together, forming a sort of diamond-like shape if a line were drawn around them. In doing so, this reduces shear forces normally present in two-track vehicle turning, sort of like how a ball bearing works. The front of the vehicle is another interesting story. It utilizes unconventional lighting systems due to it's reactor-based engine which provides enormous amounts of electrical energy for such a small vehicle. If you want to get somewhere, well, it'll definitely get you there. You might also notice the under-slung machine gun, great for kneecapping the nasties, so long as they're directly in front of you within... Eh, 35 degrees? essentially it's a newer version of the old design principle, whereby older tanks possessed a driver-controlled machine gun, this one is just remotely controlled. Due to the positioning, it must be turned off, and has a self-sealing mechanism to prevent water from entering and causing waterlogging or worse. The headlamps consist of rod-like lights, not too dissimilar to fluorescent tubing, and this means they're also very bright, the sort of thing you expect from headlights. Though, it does posess a manual dimmer in the control panel to turn down the brightness, as it can be a bit much when driving in a city. The signals, and rear lights however consist of gentler, ambient light boxes, essentially a bright bulb inside a white casing which diffuses the light and marks the lamps themselves as bright, while also allowing minimal light to escape and illuminate anything in the immediate vicinity. Effectively, they're easy to see in the dark but don't provide an excellent source of light. The front hood and fenders also possess numerous intakes, needed to dissipate heating from the reactor. Unfortunately that means if you're hit in that one very specific spot with say, incendiary ammunitions, or smaller bullets, they stand a reasonable chance of bouncing in and stalling, or otherwise damaging the engine. (depending of course on where exactly the bullet goes in, it's actually not that likely.) However, the presence of these intakes also allows thermal dissipation in the hottest of environments. On the bottom of the rear end, there are openings in the longitudinal-mounted struts for water to escape out the back, as these struts are used to house a set of turbines capable of propelling the heavy goliath at a pleasant cruising speed, not insanely fast like a much more sleek fighter, but fast enough. as previously mentioned, the vehicle uses a reactor for an engine, this is why it can also run silent, and why there are no driveshafts between the hydraulic connections, merely because it uses electricity. This is also why it is able to have such phenomenally high-demanding headlights (For a land vehicle, anyways.) the straight pipes off to the side lead to a water reservoir that is cooled thoroughly every time it is cycled through the reactor, and also why there's intakes on the fenders outside the engine bay, they aren't just for show. Armament consists of as-previously stated, 8 man-portable missiles, of the typical guided variety, it is for this reason the vehicle also has a small, short-range radar on it's turret, similar in design to those used on naval ships. For aiming, a camera and laser rangefinder are mounted directly to the right of the cannon. This radar is capable of tracking targets in both the lower atmospheres and land-craft, however, if an enemy flies above a certain range, the radar will be no good. On the obscured side of the turret are two large-caliber smoke shell launchers, about the size of mortars really, but they are more or less locked to their pointed distance because of the squat height of the turret. Then we's got some technological doodads on the other side of that turret, and a big fat gun, automatically reloaded, 10 rounds per minute. This turret is unmanned, and merely controlled by the gunner in the seat next to the driver, using some of the panels just under the front view-ports.
