I know that other concepts have been brought up. However this fits two roles that currently do not appear to have a role. It is a dedicated quantum fuel material harvester as well as it would be a mid range mining ship. So my prospect is to have a new ship from Crusader Industries called the Pluto Star Harvester It would be about 40-60m long. It would have 1 or possibly 2 harvesting arms that fold out from the belly and are controlled by independent stations. They would be able to aim at the same rock if needed to work together on cracking tough rocks. My thought it that it would be a 4-8 person crew, Probably 4-5 beds. There would also be a dedicated scanning chair or this may be a role handled by one of the mining seats. Then there would be someone who would be operating the purification system. It would probably also have a selection of 2-4 remote turrets however it would probably be armed just enough as a deterrent and if you're going after quantum matter, you would probably want a dedicated escort. As to the capacity of it. It would be able to take in quantum material and purify the material to just refinable material but it would not be able to refine the material into fuel itself, this would be something that would need to be done somewhere else. As to the capability of normal mining, I had two thoughts on this, either it could use the same purification system to purify ores as they come in so that when you go back to station your haul is worth more per unit than a prospector because it's already been cleared of significant contaminants. Alternatively, it could be a partially modular ship allowing you to take out the purification system to significantly improve your ore capacity so you would have the same value per unit as a Prospector however you would be bringing in a far larger load per trip. Based on the size, I would say it probably has 100-150 SCU of cargo without the refining system installed. So as a miner, it might not be the best profit per person as if they were all in prospectors, however the mining rate per operator would probably be notably better than the Prospector. However if you go for quantum matter you would be able to pull in a significant amount of money. The main idea with this is that it can harvest quantum fuel very effectively where other methods may be slower or provide a far less useful product as it would still need to be purified or you may get a worse output ratio from trying to refine unpurified material. I pulled the picture from the hercules concept art. It is separate enough from the Hercules that it could be developed into its own design rather than appearing like a derivative. It also have quite notable VTOL engines which would allow it to handle mining on planets as the hunt for quantum matter would probably take you all over the place. As all things here, it's largely an initial thought and can be changed and improved from here. So what would your suggestions be? And my idea for it being a Crusader Industries ship came from someone suggesting "Star Miner" originally and it made me picture a CI mining ship. Pluto is known for precious materials and jems and is from Roman mythology which appears to be a growing theme for CI ships. I initially posted this in the Game Ideas section, however it was suggested to post it here. As well as it was pointed out that it would be better if the Starfairer just got its ability to harvest on its own back. But even in that case, this would still stand as a reasonable prospect for a mid tier mining ship with some adjustments to the mining methods to make it more profitable.
