Concept: RSI-Corona Short description Soloable medium sized workhorse-transporter for the civilian market. The small sister of the Connie and RSI’s answer to the Freelancer, for pilots who look for a better view into the Verse and the possibility to fly with a fixed-weapons setup. It’s in Lancer-size (as Cutlass and Hull-B), being a bit more bulky and heavy-duty, which means as well a bit more cargo capacity. And it comes in four variants… Some Stats As stats for ship-features aren’t to meaningful atm, just a brief description: The Corona is designed as heavy-duty, sturdy and persistent transporter. Its true strengths are fast loading, good capacity and reliability, combined with acceptable range, endurance and moderate running costs (Lancer is long-range, Black is jack-of-all-trades with fighting). Due to the weaker main thrusters the acceleration will be lower than the Lancers, not sure about max speed. But the stronger and better placed maneuvering thrusters give it a better roll, pitch, yaw and strafing (important for a fixed weapon setup). And in Quantum everyone is equal, of course. The weapon loadout is comparable to Lancer and Black, with a good punch for fixed setups, what makes it pretty dangerous in middle and long gun range. But it is definitely not supposed to win against superiority fighters or small bombers. If avoiding combat hasn’t worked out, plan B is to survive long enough to jump away. Therefore shields and hull can take some beating, while turret and missiles keep agile attackers busy. Size: 36 x 25.6 x 6.9 m Crew: min. 1, max. 2. - While the ship should work well for a solo pilot, the official standard crew is 2 – counting the 2 cockpit seats for pilot, copilot/operator and 2 beds/escape pods. If you share beds and don’t care for a place in the escape pods, you can easily host 4 persons. Cargo: See in the variants below. Weapons: 2x S4 weapon-hardpoints on the back-top wings facing forwards, to clear the escape corridor (when buying, you can chose between a fixed or a gimballed loadout: fixed 2x M6A, gimballed 2x M5A). 2x S2 or S3 (?) weapon-ports below the canards (fixed 2x M4A/M5A?, gimballed 2x M3A/M4A). 1x remote turret with 2x S2 guns on the rear top, for close situations and to cover the back. Upgradeable to an auto-turret via blade (comes with 2x CF-227 Badger Laser Repeaters). 2x bespoke ordnance-hardpoints on top of the back compartment. RSI offers two possible mounting parts: You can choose between boxes with the Connies missile rack with a reduced magaizene for up to 24 S2-missiles. Alternatively the box-racks can be changed out for extra quantum fuel tanks. The countermeasure-launchers are placed in the back above the hatch (no details yet). Else: Jump engine, 2 beds = escape pods, shoebox-living area. The stock sensors (on top of the cockpit, in the cockpit frame and the wings) are above average - as is the pretty high signature of the ship. In addition there is room for an utility-hardpoint (S?) for additive scanners or other devices (e.g. tractor beam) to be plunged in below the cockpit. This hardpoint including a scanner comes as stock loadout only in the Albatross-variant. [Looks like the concept of a 'hardpoint for a hardpoint' isn't planned for the game now. I think it would be nice, if a hardpoint could be retrofitted in this case. Otherwise the utility-hardpoint will only be available also in the Pegasus-variant]. [edited Nov. 2017: changed name from “Conjunction” to “Corona”, updated descriptions to new ship stats and added some new pics edited July 2018: upsize, stats, turret edited April+Oct. 2019: added commercial vid and small text edits] The original thread with more (older) pictures can be found in the subforum modding of the archived old forums: https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.com/discussion/355516/rsi-conjunction-s3-spacetruck-for-transport-hauling-exploration. I’m still very interested on constructive feedback and questions! A rough balancing diagram: And some “historical” PICs: The first beauty shot from the initial post in the old forum, a size comparison and rough blockout of the interior: Variants The Conjunction comes in four variants with different back-compartments: Pegasus: the base-variant is a hauler for indoor bulky cargo (12 x 4 x 4 m – probably ca. 72 SCU). The RSI-typical cargolift, combined with an upwards opening hatch in the tail, that opens a 4 m high open entrance, allows fast and easy plane loading. The ideal upgrade from a starter ship for haulers and freelancers, who want to fly alone or with a friend [P/AI] and visit all the incredible landing zones in the verse. /The Pegasus is a harsh competitor to the MISC-Lancer. Auriga: Instead of the closed cabin of the other variants, the Aurigas back-compartment mainly consists of an engine-frame around a triple cargolift with grav-plates for external containers of 12 x 6 x 4 m in total (ca. 147 SCU). These three cargolifts can each be operated on its own and be opened like a folding gate […as the Taurus’. My first ideas/sketches were about a clamping system like some modern container loaders have. Since CIG seems to have switched to grav-plates with the hull series, my fictional RSI-ship did the same]. By far not as much capacity as the Hull-B, but as well not as defenseless. The enlarged cargo-capacity comes with less fuel and a weaker structure of the rear-compartment, what causes a slightly choked SCM and acceleration. /Some call the Auriga the “Little Taurus”, others speak of the “broad butt”… The pic shows only a draft for the location of the containers:
