I've always wanted to sketch up a 3d vehicle, but never being used to drawing cars, designing a land vehicle seem more difficult than a spaceship for me. Still, I had an idea today and so I though I'd sketch up the idea so it won't get lost. Motivation/core ideas: + four wheeled cargo hauler or other type of vehicle + high ground clearance + height adjusted clearance (for use with a ramp on the side) + engine on the rear side - four wheel drive, unresolved (how to couple the forward wheels to the engine shaft?) Edit: I now think I can have the drive shafts on the top side of the vehicle going forwards, from the engine(s) at the back. - height adjustment mechanism unresolved (how to design it mechanically?) Edit: In hindsight, this type of mechanism seem easy enough to design. - with the idea of having a drive shaft that adjusts the length with the adjustable clearance height, the problem then is coming up with an extending/contracting drive shaft, for varying its length some place just above the vertical wheel joint for turning the wheel. As usual, the things that I tend to like with designs are the proportions of all the individual objects and the overall shape. I would wish this vehicle to be even wider, but I don't want it wider than 8.1 meters, as I would want the vehicle to fit this spaceship design I keep working on from time to time. The wheels swing maximum 22 deg to each side. Hopefully, with both forwards and the rear set of wheels turning, the turning radius will be improved by having both sets of wheels turning. Edit: The image below show the vehicle first with lowered elevation (for using the ramp), and then with raised elevation (for ground clearance).
