I used to play game named Arma, a lot. One of the most requested mods to be run was "Task Force Radio". What this did was allow you to use a in game radio asset to actively manage what voice channel you were using outside of game. I would love to see a plugin or some kind of permission hook to bring this idea to SC. It doesn't have to leverage teamspeak, I know some people have aversions to one application or another. Let's move on to the why, maybe another tool would work. Why?: As ships and fleets grow, I can see a need to have different com levels for specific Ship Stations, Ships and Groups. I think of it like this, your a captain on large ship like an Idris or Javelin, you're not going to always be talking to everyone at once(28 Idris, 80 javelin). You will give out orders and directives to department heads who then manage those under them. If you take this to the next level for say a fleet, you can then understand the need for a more granular approach. I've tried the in-game FOIP, VIP system. I could never get it to work the way I want and one of the things I want is: to be able to listen to and interact with multiple channels at once. I could set one to mute but not deafen, the other I could deafen but not mute(Think ship wide intercom, or fleet wide). For this to work, I need an easy to switch com's channel feature with keybinds. In the end, we need much more flexibility with the coms system than we do now, at least that's been my experience admittingly I couldn't get VOIP/FOIP to work despite heaving a robust technical background in real life.
