The caveat being price as nobody no matter what can get any graphics card. At the manufacturer suggested retail price so why even debate that. Now with that out of the way last night I reached my breaking point. The price of graphics cards is starting to go up again, and in all likelihood will continue to do so for many months. As such when I saw an advance order for a 3070ti at twelve hundred and fifty dollars I pounced. I mean it is next to impossible to find a 3070 at retail for less then fifteen hundred, and I have waited twelve months already so what is another three to four weeks after that. Having bit the bullet as it were, and having gotten mine mind you I actually wanted a 3080, but I am not going to drop two grand to get one of those. Two hundred percent is already too much as is, and three hundred percent for ten more frames. They may have broken me, but I haven't taken leave of my senses. I then went off to bed, but I didn't sleep soundly. So there I am at three in the morning, and can't manage to get any sleep. So I get up to do some exercise, and while I peddle away on my bike. I decide to do a little comparing. When I found another advanced listing. This time for a 6900xt for eleven hundred bucks. Which after a little self reflection on my part. I once again decide to pounce on a new graphics card. Wow it is a one hundred and fifty dollars cheaper before taxes, and on top of that the card is only ten percent over the suggested retail price. Meanwhile the 3070ti I pounced on was at one hundred percent over the suggested retail price, and uh oh the delivery date has moved up by three weeks. I have seen Amazon do this before it can jump again, and if it ships before I cancel that order that isn't good. Now it is half past three in the morning, and I have a serious decision to make. Which card do I keep, and which one do I cancel. One should arrive within two weeks, the other will arrive in October. I quickly look up some reviews, and the reviewers hate the 6900xt, but most aren't keen on the 3070ti either. For the same reasons it appears. Both aren't good value for the money. Well that doesn't seem to apply. While the 6900 has better baseline performance. It doesn't do better by much, but it doesn't do as well at ray tracing, but it can still do ray tracing. Well I guess you see the crux of my dilemma neither is discernibly superior. Ultimately I decided upon the latter as opposed to the former, because it ended up saving me money, and it managed to make me feel less guilty. It was priced well within the realm of reason. That said however it is definitely an interesting problem to consider. What would you all have decided upon, and what would your reasoning have been?
