I have Asus Strix 1080Ti OC (11GB VRAM) and I wanted to upgrade it to EVGA 3070 (8GB). 3070 is at least 50% faster, but it has less memory, which I thought wouldn't be problematic. After testing it in Star Citizen, I must say that this 3070 behaves actually worse in 4K and 1440p, mostly because of that memory usage. While 1080ti loads everything with minimal problems, 3070 clearly struggles. I had to rotate myself several times until GPU caught everything that was needed to load in GPU memory. I will ask for a refund for that 3070 with knowledge that I will need at least 10-11GB VRAM to play this game properly in all resolutions >1440p. I know that it is still unoptimized, but this demanding game will need a lot of VRAM for those high resolutions. My guess is that even 2080Ti would be a better choice than 3070 in this case. Really too bad that this game didn't give much love to ATI users, considering that those newer cards come with 16GB VRAM. I am leaving sensor recording for 1080ti, for future reference.
