UPDATE: (23/08/2020) I have made changes to this guide to, I hope, finally have the proper way of adding modifiers. I reinstalled the game and discovered that the previous instructions do not work. I will keep the old instructions in case they prove useful at some point. The only change is step 3. This guide will show how to assign a new modifier that is compatible with the built in game profiler. For this guide I am going to make Eject A+Y. This is not a place to debate KB+M vs HOTUS vs Game pad, please refrain from doing so. Thank you. 1. You will need to create, and export a profile: https://support.robertsspaceindustries.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000183328 I suggest using the default. If you made changes already, you can reset to default by pressing the ` (tilde) key in game. Type pp_rebindkeys Press Enter Key 2. Using your editor of choice, locate and open your exported xml file. Default Location: [drive:]\StarCitizen\PTU or Live\USER\Controls\Mappings 3. Make the changes seen in Figure A. Example, " <modifiers> <mod input="gp1_a"/> </modifiers>" without outside quotes. 3. Make the changes seen in Figure A2. Example, " <modifiers> <add input="gp1_a"/> </modifiers>" without outside quotes. 4. Save the file. I suggest making a backup copy outside of the game folders in case future updates overwrite the current folders. 5. Import your file using methods from step 1. Alternatively, you can press the ` (tilde) key in game. Type: pp_rebindkeys layout_[your file name]_exported.xml Press Enter Key 6. Make changes to your profile: https://support.robertsspaceindustries.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000134267-Set-up-keybindings-for-your-peripherals 7. You should now be able to use the new modifier button as seen in Figure B. 8. Return to the game and give your new profile a try. NOTE: If your controls are not working check to see if the changes from step 3 were modified during the export process. For me, gp1_ is removed every time I export my profile and I have to manually add it back in. Also, you may have to load your profile each time you play. I suggest using pp_rebindkeys every time you start the game just to be sure. I hope I did not miss anything. Also, if you are using an actual MS Xbox controller, the Chat Pad is a great way to add 36+ buttons to your controller. Good luck and happy pew pew.
