TLDR; don't, at least not now I currently don't play any games besides SC and was thinking about upgrading my rig when i realized that I really shouldn't. If you happen to be in the same situation maybe the following considerations could save you some money. GPU Current situation: 2080TI is extremely fast and somewhat ahead of it's time, that's why it's way too expensive (very large die, low yield) Radeon 7 is fast but should be considered an engineering sample (16 GB of HBM memory too expensive and only used bc the arch doesn't function without it) Assumption: By the time SC releases there'll be cards with similar performance to the 2080TI but for less money from both AMD and Nvidia CPU Current situation: 8700K very popular, (arguably) reasonably priced and fast gaming CPU, but only 6 cores AMD not competitive in single thread performance Assumption: AMD will get it's single thread performance closer to Intel and release CPUs that are cheap, reasonably clocked and with 8+ cores (This in turn forces Intel to lower prices etc..) (For core count impact see next assumption) Performance optimization Assumption: The heavily modified CryEngine (Lumberyard) is likely going to make better use of many cores than most current-gen games do Also: progressive quarterly performance optimizations according to roadmap Drivers Assumption: There will likely be "game ready" drivers from Nvidia and AMD once the game is released which will further boost game performance As for NVME storage and RAM I'm not aware of any ground-breaking tech that's currently around the corner (next 2-3 years). Ofc it's reasonable to assume progressive improvements and price drops, although with flash-storage one never really knows where the price is heading.
