A while back I realized my monitor didn't go off by itself anymore. After a ton of playing around with it via trial and error I finally determined it was the Thrustmaster TWCS throttle (e.g., unplug the throttle and the monitor powers off normally). I contacted Thrustmaster support and once they learned it only had the behavior on some computers they pawned me off to MSI (my motherboard manufacturer) who also didn't know what was going on. Update: The Fix worked yesterday, not working today. Reboot and it's working again... so something else might still be going on... seems to work normally most of the time. The Fix The fix for me turned out to be disabling NVIDIA's "GeForce Experience Overlay". You can disable/enable it by going into settings (the gear at the top of the GeForce Experience panel), then clicking the In-Game Overlay button. I still have the Steam overlay, so not really loosing anything and the rest of the Experience features work. Previous stuff from the OP UPDATE: Ignore this solution below ... it caused other problems but I've left it in just in case the fix doesn't work for you and your looking for other things to try. Open the device manager (just type "device manager" into the "type here to search box") Expand Human Interface Devices Figure out which "USB Input Device" is the throttle. You can do this by unplugging the throttle's USB cable and recording the "location" of the remaining "USB Input Device"s. The location is visible by right-clicking a "USB Input Device" and selecting "properties". When you plug the USB cable back in, it'll be the one with the unrecorded location (for me it was the top one on the list). Right click the "USB Input Device" that is the the throttle and select "properties". Go to the "power management" tab, uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" Click okay and close the windows. Hopefully that works for you, if not here's a brief run down of what I did that might lead you to a solution. Searching google gave me an idea it could be a controller, and sure enough unplugging the throttle resolved the issue. But none of the fixes from Microsoft or others worked for me (and from the comments lots of others still had the problem). Saw the USB Selective Suspend that allows Windows to put USB devices separately to sleep; but that didn't work. Then spent a while in the event viewer looking for errors and never did find anything relevant. But, when I ran "powercfg/energy duration 65" from a dos box in "c:\windows\system32" with the monitor turn off set to 1 min, I got numerous errors. All but one said they weren't a problem, and sure enough the HID/VID matched that of the throttle: Device Drivers: Devices with missing or misconfigured drivers can increase power consumption. DeviceName HID-compliant game controller Device ID HID\VID _044F&PID_B687\8&2D410E2C&0&0000 Device Status0x1802400 Device Problem Code0x16 That eventually led me to from the HID-Compliant game controller that was the throttle to the corresponding USB Input Device which I think is the "port" and happens to have the power setting. Seeing as Thrustmaster is using the Microsoft HID driver, the 0x16 is probably coming from the device, currently I have the problem running the 9/28/2017 firmware load. If a new rev comes out that fixes it I'll post an update.
