Hi all, I really need to upgrade my GPU as it is is over 5 years old (R9 200 series xD), as I can barely play Assassin's Creed Odyssey at 1080p on medium settings. Problem is, I'm not convinced that Nvidia's newer cards are worth their exorbitant cost. The rest of my rig is pretty good and doesn't need upgrading. I'm willing to shell out up to 600 - 650 Euros max. Since my house is small, I have no need for a big monitor where 4K would make sense, 1440p is more than sufficient for me. Also, since from what I've understood real time ray tracing is still in its infant stages and will take a while to mature, I am not basing my choice on this. The way I see it, my options are: 1) Keep scouring the market for a GTX 1080, 2) Buy an RTX 2070 (which would basically be a slightly more future proof 1080), 3) Hold off the upgrade until AMD releases their new lineup and decide then, 4) Buy something cheap along the lines of an RX580 (which I find is at the 350 Euro price range ATM) as a "placeholder" until a newer, more substantial generation of GPUs is released. What do you guys think? I am leaning more to options 3 and 4 currently as Nvidia's price gouging is really pissing me off. I'm content with games like the aforementioned AC: Od running smoothly at 1080p at reasonable quality (Note: I tend to turn off motion blur and depth of field in games too, especially the former, since they usually annoy me more than impress me). Thanks in advance guys and girls!
