Way back in 2.6 throttle was easy. My left stick's twist controlled throttle. Twist right for more power, twist left for less power. When you got to zero you started going backward 25% of full throttle or something like that. After 3.0 I walked away from this game for quite some time and I only came back last month. I have a HOSAS setup again but the throttle control is frustrating me. First, I can't seem to increase my speed by minute amounts (like during mining or coming into a hangar) without getting full blown boost happening. Half a dozen times now I try to nudge the throttle for some forward momentum and my ship thinks it's time to participate in the Kessel Run. Second, the maximum speed control (the little box that you can move up and down to determine maximum speed) is an independent binding. This means that if I want to input minute amounts of thrust I first must set my power limit. This is slow, annoying, and defeats the purpose of having analogue thrust control. Am I missing a binding that allows for true analogue thrust control? I twist my stick ever so slightly and I see that it's actually increasing my thrust by incremental amounts, like first it goes to 25, and then I think 100, and so on. It used to be that I could hold the twist and the speed would slide up and down nice and smooth. I'm very curious what other HOSAS users are doing here because CIG seems to have taken one system and split it into two separate bindings. Hell, they basically split it into 3 separate bindings when you include the cruise control setting. In the past your maximum speed WAS cruise control, and your maximum speed also dictated how much thrust you sent to your engines.
